SportWorks TALKS: “Celebrating Black stories in sports”
July 29 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm CEST
The world of sport is filled with incredible stories. Athletes, coaches, sports workers all have an interesting story to tell. There are often narratives of adversity and overcoming barriers. And all too often, they have a larger tale around them. The barriers, for example, are often related to race or gender. Leon Mann, an interviewer, consultant and filmmaker, has dedicated his life to highlighting these stories.
Through the Black Collective of Media in Sport (BCOMS) for example, Leon has created a network for black professionals in sports media. This translates to other areas of sports, like the Football Black List – a celebration of black professionals who are inspiring the next generation of leaders in the sport. But what do these stories have to say? How does highlighting diversity counter prejudices and racism in sport? What more can be done to positively highlight the immense contributions that diversity can have to our sports. Leon joins us for SportWorks TALKS, to discuss these narratives and how he’s providing a platform to these stories. Tune in and find out more!
