“The blueprint for sustainable sports clubs” – Claire Poole

Launched in 2019 along with the BBC, the Sport Positive Leagues were launched to measure football clubs not by their merit on the pitch, but by their sustainability efforts. The Leagues are based on multiple categories including energy use, efficiency, transportation, measures on matchdays etc. But what makes the rankings work?

It requires buy-in from the clubs, from the Premier League, from Bundesliga and all the other top professional leagues across Europe. It also requires proper mechanisms in place, external commitments for accountability, and active efforts from clubs like Tottenham, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and others. Listen to our latest SportWorks TALK with Claire, Founder and CEO, Sport Positive as she discussed the larger effect of the Leagues, and how other sports and their clubs can use these rankings to measure their sustainability efforts
